Let me tell you about these reusable beeswax wraps.
Beeswax wraps are pieces of fabric that have been coated in beeswax, making them reusable and semi water proof. These wraps replace the need for plastic bags and reduce the amount of plastic needed overall.
Ive seen ads for them before on the internets and then about a week ago I saw this one on Instagram. That video got the wheels turning. I knew that my local health store had beeswax and that this would be a quick and very satisfying craft.
I made mine slightly different that the ones in the linked video above but the concept is the same.
Ive listed nine sets of sandwich and snack sized wraps in my Etsy shop.
Bee the buzz of the office with these wraps!
This is the second thing I have made in the series Pinned it; made it. Last week I made a banana bread with a crumble and I didn’t change a thing. For this weeks project I added a few things.
My bestie has a small obsession with mermaids. And who doesn’t these days. Mermaids are like unicorns. They are just so cool with no explanation. I had originally saved this pin to send her as a “Awww isn’t this cute” type thing but it quickly became a “lets make her something cool” type thing. Making this was long over due too. I’ve owed her something cool for a while. She’s been watching Rohan and sometimes with no pay. Just in cuddles.
My saved image is from this website. It doesn’t look like they have it in stock anymore but there are many other cute mermaid items and inspiration on that website. I printed out the image and cut out the lettering to prep it for screen printing. It is perfect for this Sarah Jane Out to Sea print. I used gold ink to print it onto the fabric.
I had gold bias tape left over from a different project and it matched perfectly with the gold screen printing ink. For the back I used a Heather Ross print. I’m not sure what it’s called but it is a “Princess and the pea” print. My local fabric store carries it. I cut the end into a more pointed shape to give it that banner feel and attached that’s gold binding. Even Rohan came to help. He can’t resist something so cool. We all took a trip to the Aquarium together. I kept pulling out the banner to take pictures and she didn’t even realize it was for her! Undfortunatly only a few pictures turned out. It was hard to get the lighting just right.
I forgot to take pictures of the back. And by the time we got back from the shedd and dinner it was late and the natural light was just about gone. This was the best picture I could get.
And that’s about it on the banner. It started as just a saying and I turned it into this amazing banner. The power of creativity! Rohan and I went out and found a stick to hang it- we don’t have a surplus of dowel rods here so a stick would have to work. My bestie was really surprised to receive it and I was sad to let it go. It’s so pretty! Maybe we should have matching banners.
When I found out that my brothers family was visiting I quickly whipped up these tanks for my niece. I always like having little gifts for her to open. I’ve made both designs before so printing them was pretty easy.
I printed and cut out my designs. Prepped my ink and printed my first layer. Don’t mind the dirty screen. It doesn’t effect the print, it’s just ugly. I got a new hot pink ink. It’s hard to tell here but it’s super bright. After my first layer dried I printed Hi in gold. You can tell more of the brightness here in these pictures. So bright! For the second tank I re- printed the baby bird I had made for her a few months back. Actually it was about a year ago, just before her birthday.
We’re going on a little get away this weekend. Getting away from the city and going to a little bed and breakfast in Wisconsin. Even though it’s just the weekend and the location is pretty close we are so excited to get away. Our plans are to go hiking, nothing too exciting. I’ll probably update Instagram if you want to follow along.
In my family the month of May is full of birthdays. Two of my nephews and Rohan’s birthdays are in the end of May. My nephews are two weeks before Rohan’s but we will be celebrating their birthdays on Memorial Day.
The alphabet shirt is for my oldest nephew. He is turning 5. I tried really hard to think of a punny saying but nothing came up about being 5. Unless the shirt said high- five but I thought that was too simple. And I wanted a shirt he would wear at kindergarten.
These two wild one shirts are for the two boys turning one. Rohan and my youngest nephew. They’re gonna be matching! Even though we only live 40 minutes from each other we hardly see each other so the chance of the boys wearing matching shirts beyond this Memorial Day is pretty low.
Both these shirts were multiple prints. On the alphabet shirt I did the alphabet leaving out the HI. When the blue ink dried I screen printed the HI. I was unsure of the colors but I love how it turned out. After these shirts I plan of picking out more screen printing colors.
The wild one shirt is four prints. I took the design from a few different places and made it into one. I printed wild one and waited for that to dry, printed the circle arrow and waited for that to dry, printed the center arrow and then the pink heart. This is why there are differences between the two wild one shirts. The gold on grey shirt is a little harder to see but I think they will be well received. I hope. It’s hard not knowing whether or not what I make will be liked. This side of my family is harder to please.
I picked up some leather at Joanns and I also plan on making a pair of shoes for the youngest. I made him a pair when he was a baby but I don’t know if they were ever worn. I hope these will be well received.
Stay positive and have a good holiday weekend! Enjoy the weather and bbqs. 🙂
Not too much new to say about his shirt.
I had a hard time with size. I couldn’t figure out if I was going to big or too small with the dinosaur. I printed out a bunch of extras and settled on these. This time I used a shirt from H &M. I’m using whatever my husband has in his drawer that he’s not wearing/using. He has a lot of extra t shirts!
For the screen printing color I mixed it myself. I used a teal blue and mix it with a lot of white. Boy was that messy. I had paint all over the place. Growing up we always called my dad a dinosaur. And he would tell us stories of being alive during the dinosaurs and how all of his friends(dinosaurs) are gone. He’s also 65 million years old. He’s been that old for like the last 15 years. I had borrowed a Pyrex from my dad so I wrapped the shirt up in that to return it. He loved it! Happy dad! Happy birthday! Sister and dad in their shirts.
Now I have other family members asking for their own shirts. 🙂
And the cake that my sister made! How delicious! 🎂🎂 Sande is my aunt. Her and my dad are Irish twins.
